Africa Dynamic Development Group (ADG) Assessment Policy and Plan
Effective Date: 6 November 2025
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all assessments conducted by Africa Dynamic Development Group (ADG) are fair, valid, reliable, transparent, and consistently applied. This policy, together with the Assessment Plan, outlines the principles and procedures for measuring learner competence against the requirements of QCTO and CETA registered qualifications.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all summative and formative assessments for all training programs, qualifications, and short courses offered by ADG. It is binding upon all assessors, moderators, and administrative staff involved in the assessment process.
3. Policy Statement
ADG is committed to a credible assessment system that accurately recognizes a learner’s competence. We will ensure that all our assessment practices are designed to be equitable, free from bias, and focused on confirming that a learner can consistently demonstrate the required knowledge and skills as outlined in the relevant unit standards.
4. Principles of Assessment
All assessments conducted by ADG will adhere to the following principles:
- Validity: Assessments measure what they claim to measure. The evidence collected is directly relevant to the learning outcomes and unit standard requirements.
- Reliability: Assessment judgments are consistent and reproducible. Different assessors would reach the same conclusion based on the same evidence.
- Fairness: Assessments do not disadvantage any learner and are free from any form of bias. All rules and procedures are transparent and applied equally.
- Sufficiency: The evidence collected is enough to make a sound and confident judgment about the learner’s competence across all required outcomes.
- Transparency: Learners are fully informed about the assessment process, criteria, and methods from the beginning of their course.
5. The Assessment Plan
This plan details the operational steps of our assessment process.
5.1. Assessment Design
All assessments are designed by the Training Manager in consultation with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
Assessment instruments (e.g., tests, assignments, observation checklists) are directly mapped to the specific outcomes and assessment criteria of the unit standard.
5.2. Communication of Assessment
At the beginning of every course, all learners will receive a clear Assessment Guide.
This guide will outline the assessment methods to be used, submission deadlines, the weighting of each assessment, and the rules for re-assessment.
5.3. Assessment Methods
ADG uses a range of assessment methods to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of competence. The methods used are course-dependent and may include:
- Formative Assignments
- Summative Assignments / Projects
- Knowledge Tests / Examinations
- Practical Observations
- Case Studies
- A Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)
5.4. Submission of Evidence
- All evidence for assessment must be submitted by the learner by the specified deadline.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a Declaration of Authenticity, as per our Management of Assessments and PoEs Policy.
5.5. Assessment Judgement
- The assigned registered Assessor will evaluate the submitted evidence against the assessment criteria.
- The assessor will make a judgment of “Competent” (C) or “Not Yet Competent” (NYC) for each specific outcome.
- The assessor will complete a standard Assessment Feedback Form for every learner.
5.6. Provision of Feedback
- All learners will receive constructive, written feedback on their assessment performance.
- For a “Not Yet Competent” result, the feedback will clearly explain the gaps in the evidence and provide specific guidance on what is required for a re-assessment.
5.7. Re-assessment
- A learner who is deemed “Not Yet Competent” is entitled to one opportunity for re-assessment.
- The re-assessment may involve submitting new or revised evidence as guided by the assessor’s feedback.
- Re-assessment is subject to a fee, as detailed in our Fees, Cancellations, and Refunds Policy.
5.8. Certification
- An assessment result is considered provisional until it has been verified through the internal moderation process.
- A learner is only deemed to have officially completed the assessment requirements once a certificate is issued by ADG.
6. Responsibilities
- Assessor: Is responsible for conducting assessments fairly, providing constructive feedback, and maintaining accurate assessment records.
- Training Manager: Is responsible for the overall design of assessments, managing the assessment schedule, and ensuring assessors comply with this policy.
- Learner: Is responsible for submitting authentic work on time, engaging with the feedback provided, and adhering to all assessment rules.
